Scottsdale Website Design | SEO | Web Design Phoenix | SEO Case Study: E-Commerce Site Grows Google Traffic 800% in 12 Months

Is your business struggling to get leads, website traffic, and sales? Are you frustrated that your competitors keep showing up above you on Google while your website barely gets noticed? Wondering why your website is great but the phone isn’t ringing?

You’re not alone. Generating consistent leads is one of the biggest challenges contractors face. Many contractors simply aren’t ranking on Google where potential customers are searching.

That was the exact problem one of our contractor clients was facing — and we’re going to show you how we fixed it.

Who Are They?

Because of privacy agreements, we can’t reveal the company’s name or exact products. However, the results below come directly from Google Search Console. We’ll show you what happened after implementing a focused SEO strategy.

We can tell you that this business sells specialized products online and serves a niche market within the construction and home improvement industry.

In just 12 months, this business dramatically increased its Google visibility, ranked for significantly more keywords, and generated thousands of additional visitors from organic search traffic.

How an Online Store Dramatically Increased Organic Traffic Without Paid Ads

The Challenge: A Great Product But Almost No Google Visibility

Many small businesses assume that once their website is built, customers will automatically find it. Unfortunately, that’s rarely how Google works.

This company already had a website and quality products. The challenge wasn’t the business — it was visibility on Google.

Before working with us, their website had several common SEO problems that we see frequently with small businesses:

  • Organic traffic was very low. The website received some visitors from direct traffic and existing customers, but very little traffic from Google.
  • Product pages were not optimized for the terms potential customers were searching for, making it difficult for Google to understand and rank their content.
  • Important keywords were missing from page titles, headings, and on-page content.
  • The website had very little supporting content. The blog was rarely updated, and existing articles provided little value to users or search engines.
  • Key landing pages lacked depth and were not effectively targeting the searches their potential customers were making.
  • Competitors were consistently outranking them in Google search results, capturing traffic that could have been going to this business.

As a result, their website rarely appeared in Google searches — even when people were looking for the exact type of products they sold.

This is a common pain point for many small businesses and contractors. They know people are searching online for their products or services, but their website simply isn’t showing up. Our goal was to change that.

Key Results at a Glance

After implementing a focused SEO strategy, the results were dramatic.

Over the course of a year:

  • Organic clicks increased from 1.5K to 13.6K per year
  • Search impressions increased from 225K to 2.49 million
  • Traffic from Google increased by over 800%
  • The number of keywords the website ranks for grew significantly

Most importantly, this growth came from organic Google searches — not paid ads.

This means the website is now consistently attracting potential customers who are actively searching for related products online.

Even when the site did appear in search results, it was often buried deep on page two or three — where very few people ever click.

SEO FACT: The top 3 spots on Google’s search results get about 70% of clicks. The #1 spot gets almost 40% of all the clicks. So if you’re not at the top of Google’s ranking then you’re missing out on business.

The Results: Major Growth in Google Traffic

Once the SEO improvements were implemented, the website began steadily climbing in Google rankings.

The charts below show the results using data taken directly from Google Search Console.

12-Month Traffic Growth

A Google Search Console 12-month comparison chart shows clicks and impressions up 806% and 1,006%, respectively, with last year in blue and previous year in orange. Large arrows highlight the increases.

Over a 12-month period, the growth was dramatic.

  • Clicks increased from 1.51K to 13.68K (up 806%)
  • Impressions increased from 225K to 2.49M (up 1,006%)

This means the website is now appearing in Google search results far more frequently and attracting significantly more visitors.

6-Month Traffic Growth

A Google Search Console 6-month comparison chart showing clicks and impressions. Clicks rose 99% and impressions rose 67% in the last 6 months versus the previous period, shown with two upward red arrows.

Growth continued to accelerate during the most recent six-month period.

  • Clicks increased from 4.56K to 9.09K (up 99%)
  • Impressions increased from 930K to 1.55M (up 67%)

These improvements show that the website’s visibility and authority continue to grow over time.

3-Month Traffic Growth

A Google Search Console report compares two 3-month periods, showing total clicks and impressions up by 46% and 88%. A line graph visualizes growth, with current and previous data in orange and blue.
A Google Search Console report compares two 3-month periods, showing total clicks and impressions up by 46% and 88%. A line graph visualizes growth, with current and previous data in orange and blue.

Even over the most recent three months, traffic continues to climb.

  • Clicks increased by 46%
  • Impressions increased by 88%

This type of steady growth is exactly what a healthy SEO campaign should produce.

Organic Keyword Growth

Another important sign of SEO success is the number of keywords a website ranks for.

As the SEO campaign progressed, the website began appearing in Google search results for many more related searches.

The more keywords a website ranks for, the more opportunities it has to attract potential customers.

Over the past year, the number of keywords the site ranks for has increased dramatically, expanding the website’s visibility across Google.

The SEO Strategy We Implemented

This growth didn’t happen because of one single change. It came from implementing a structured SEO strategy designed specifically for small businesses and e-commerce websites.

Technical SEO & Product Page Optimization

First, we improved the website’s core SEO structure.

This included optimizing page titles, meta descriptions, headings, and internal linking. Product pages were also expanded and improved so Google could better understand what each page was about. These changes help search engines properly index the website and match it to relevant searches.

Content Strategy, Keyword Targeting & Backlinks

Next, we expanded the website’s content and keyword coverage.

This included creating helpful content related to the products and improving existing pages so they targeted real search terms customers were using. We created new product and landing pages targeting important search terms used by potential customers.

We also built backlinks from relevant industry websites, which helps strengthen a website’s authority in Google’s algorithm.

Performance Tracking & Ongoing SEO Improvements

SEO is not a one-time task. It requires continuous monitoring and improvement.

Throughout the campaign we tracked performance using tools like Google Search Console and Google Analytics. This allowed us to identify new opportunities and continue improving rankings over time.

What This Means for Other Businesses

Many small businesses assume SEO is complicated or requires massive budgets.

In reality, most websites simply need the fundamentals done correctly.

When your website is properly optimized for Google:

  • Your site appears in more search results
  • More people click through to your website
  • More visitors become potential customers

For businesses that rely on online visibility — including contractors, service companies, and e-commerce stores — SEO can become one of the most valuable long-term marketing channels.

Is Your Website Missing Out on Google Traffic?
